“La Autoridad Marítima de Panamá (AMP) desde el pasado mes de marzo con el aval, la supervisión y el criterio del Ministerio de Salud (MINSA) ante la emergencia sanitaria mundial causada por el coronavirus (COVID-19), ha podido gestionar la repatriación de alrededor de 3 mil 690 personas, entre pasajeros y tripulantes, de nacionalidades de distintas partes del mundo incluidos panameños, que se encontraban en diferentes tipos de buques dentro de las aguas de la República de Panamá”, indicó el Director de la Dirección General de la Gente de Mar, Capitán Juan Maltez. Los 25 panameños se encuentran sanos y acaban de arribar al muelle 6 de Panama Ports Company en el crucero Caribean Princess de la compañía Princess Cruises del Grupo Carnival line, proceden de diversas islas del Caribe, en donde la compañía a principios del mes de mayo realizó los transbordos desde varios buques con la finalidad de cumplir con las repatriaciones de sus tripulantes de diferentes nacionalidades. Este crucero no cuenta con pasajeros solo con tripulantes. Antes que una embarcación arribe al país, debe registrarse en VUMPA y brindar una declaración de sanidad marítima en donde se le realizan una serie de preguntas y requisitos, además el Capitán del buque debe firmar y certificar que se encuentran libres de coronavirus (COVID-19), tomando en consideración que los tripulantes abordo también cumplen con los protocolos entre los que se encuentran: estar en su habitación de manera individual, el uso de mascarillas de carácter obligatorio cuando salen de las cabinas y se les llevaba un registro de la temperatura 2 veces al día por parte del personal médico abordo. Es importante indicar que todas las operaciones realizadas son supervisadas por el MINSA en cumplimiento con los protocolos sanitarios establecidos, a cada tripulante al arribar le realizan su evaluación y luego pasarán a cumplir una cuarentena de 14 días. “La AMP seguirá colaborando con nuestra gente de mar panameña y con el sector marítimo, tanto nacional como internacional tal como lo hemos hecho desde un inicio de esta pandemia con el apoyo ofrecido al crucero Zaandam y Rotterdam, en donde le demostramos al mundo una gran capacidad logística por medio de la cual se logró brindar soluciones concretas en tiempo récord, que permitieron salvar la vida de pasajeros y tripulantes, siendo este aporte reconocido y elogiado a nivel mundial”, concluyó el Director Maltez.

The Director of the General Directorate of Seafarers, Captain Juan Maltez, declared that “The Panama Maritime Authority (PMA) has been able to process the repatriation of some 3,690 passengers and crew members from around the world, including Panamanians that were on board different kinds of ships within Panamanian waters since last March. In dealing with the world sanitary emergency caused by Coronavirus (COVID-19), this was all performed with the endorsement, supervision and criteria of the Ministry of Health of Panama (MINSA). The 25 Panamanians who arrived to Dock 6 of the Panama Ports Company are in full health. They were on the Caribbean Princess Cruise from the Princess Cruises Company, —part of the Carnival Line Group—, who in order to comply with the repatriation of their crew members of diverse nationalities, were coming from different Caribbean islands, where the company performed the transshipment of various ships in early March. There were only crew members on board, no passenger had to be transshipped. Before arriving to Panama, the ship must register in the VUMPA and offer a declaration of maritime sanity answering a list of questions and requirements. The Captain of the ship should also sign and certify that they are free of Coronavirus (COVID-19), taking into consideration that the crew onboard also complied with protocols such as: individual room lodging, use of mandatory masks while leaving their cabins and the recording of temperature twice a day kept by the medical personnel onboard. It is important to indicate that all performed operations, are supervised by the Ministry of Health of Panama, in compliance with the established sanitary protocol. Each crew member goes through evaluation and afterwards they will enter into a 14-day quarantine. Director Maltez concluded saying that “The PMA shall keep on collaborating with our Panamanian seafarers and with the national and international maritime sector, like we have done it from the beginning of the pandemic with the support offered to the Zaandam and Rotterdam Cruises, demonstrating the world a great logistic capacity that let us offer concrete solutions on record time, allowing the salvage of passengers and crew members, a contribution acknowledged and praised worldwide”.
